For people living with HIV, December 1st is 365 days a year.
Those of us who choose to be visible are no better or worse than those who choose not to be. But our visibility contributes immensely. Someone has to do it now, as others did before. Let's think if it were the other way around, if we had all kept quiet. What would our situation be like? Who would have spoken out, occupied the streets, remembered the first deaths, cared for their legacy, demanded health policies? Someone has to do it, for the others who did. And also for those who never will.

Author's biography
Gustavo Pecoraro (Mar del Plata, 1965) is a writer, screenwriter, journalist, and poet. He has published five books, two essays, and three poetry collections. Some of his poems were included in La lira marica. Una antología de poesía homoerotica argentina (The Marican Lira. An Anthology of Argentine Homoerotic Poetry) (Saraza, 2022). He has contributed to the Soy supplement of Página 12, La Garganta Poderosa, Casa País, Cosecha Roja, and numerous media outlets. He hosts the podcasts Puto viejo (Old Man), Aquí me pongo a contar (Here I Start to Tell), and Zona de respuestas (Response Zone). He is co-writer of the documentary El puto unforgettable. Vida de Carlos Jáuregui (The Unforgettable Puto. Life of Carlos Jáuregui) and screenwriter of Luces azules (Blue Lights) and Marta, vení (Marta, Come). He is currently a correspondent from Madrid for Infobae; a communications advisor for the Huésped Foundation; and an advisor to the National Congress on the Women and Diversity Commission. De querer así (If I Want It Like That) is his first novel.
