Charli xcx explores British gothic in Wuthering Heights, an album conceived as the soundtrack for the new film adaptation of Wuthering Heights directed by Emerald Fennell. More than “setting,” the music acts as an atmosphere: desire, roughness, uneasy romanticism, and that emotional violence that runs through Emily Brontë.

The first notice is “House” alongside John Cale, with a raw and spectral texture that pushes the narrative into a territory of shadow and electricity. “Chains of Love” shifts the pulse to a more melodic plane but retains the tension between beauty and threat that turns emotion into landscape.
