Body Present – Bob Pop
Ediciones La Uña Rota
In 1998, at just twenty-seven years old, Roberto Enríquez was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune disease that would define his life. From that moment of shock came De cuerpo presente , a short and urgent text that marked his debut as a writer, accompanied by photographs by Toya Legido. The first edition was published by Ediciones La Uña Rota in a small stapled notebook format (15 x 10 cm, 700 copies), and sold out quickly. This new edition faithfully reproduces that original layout.
Twenty-seven years later, under the name Bob Pop and at the age of fifty-three, the author returns to the same title with an expanded and revised version. As a kind of B-side, this second version of De cuerpo presente establishes a dialogue between the original poems from 1998 and new texts written from the experience of the illness in its current stage. The work includes portraits made especially for this edition by Mauricio Rétiz, the author's partner.
A collection of poems written in two times and a single body, where past and present intersect to explore the impact of diagnosis, the transformation of the body, and the persistence of the poetic gaze.
"It will be your reading that will make my future." – Bob Pop
