El libro de Gloria Fuertes: Antología de poemas y vida
Blackie Books
This special edition of The book of Gloria Fuertes. Anthology of poems and life It finally brings together in a single volume the work and biography of one of the most unique voices in twentieth-century Spanish poetry, whose career was overshadowed first by being a woman, then by her class origin and, finally, by the label of "poet for children" that eclipsed the power of her writing.
It is presented as a limited edition hardcover book with a cloth binding, painted edges, and a full-color interior. Its 448 pages bring together more than 300 poems by Gloria Fuertes, several of them previously unpublished, along with nearly 80 never-before-seen photographs, 12 original drawings, newspaper clippings, pages from her notebooks, invitations to readings, and other archival materials from her Madrid home. The result is both a book of poems and a life album.
In addition to the poetry anthology, the volume includes what is considered the most comprehensive biography of Fuertes to date, written by Jorge de Cascante, as well as 25 anecdotes scattered throughout the book that reconstruct encounters and disagreements with editors, friends, lovers, and readers. The collection concludes with a 16-page comic by Carmen Segovia, which recounts an episode from Fuertes' time as a university professor in the United States.
It is, in short, a complete portrait of Gloria Fuertes: the poet who insisted on being called a poet and not a poetess, the author who wrote for children while remaining radically adult, and the popular figure who is finally beginning to occupy her rightful place within contemporary Spanish poetry.
