LA HABITACIÓN DE AL LADO - Pedro Almodóvar
Reservoir Books
The book that accompanies Pedro Almodóvar's new film, the first of his career shot entirely in English, starring Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore. Based on the novel What is your torment? Directed by Sigrid Nunez, the film has been awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival 2024 and has received multiple nominations at the Goya Awards, the European Film Awards and the Golden Globes, among other prestigious competitions.
Ingrid and Martha were close friends in their youth. They worked at the same magazine, but Ingrid eventually became an autofiction novelist and Martha a war reporter. Life circumstances separated them, and after many years without contact, they meet again in New York, in a difficult yet strangely sweet situation. Martha, who has been a very imperfect mother and has been distancing herself from her daughter, suffers from a serious illness. Ingrid accompanies her for several months, while they talk about death, friendship, and sexual pleasure as good allies in the fight against the horror and cruelty of a world bent on advancing toward destruction.
This edition contains, in addition to the Spanish screenplay of the film, an epilogue signed by Almodóvar himself, which includes, in an unpublished text, his reflections on grief; it is also illustrated in full color with stills from the film, images from the shoot and fragments of the storyboard. The room next door It is a book that serves as the perfect companion to the feature film.
