La turbulenta vida de Sandra Almodóvar
Sandra Almodóvar was born on August 25, 1950, in Alhucemas, a former Spanish colony in northern Morocco. She fled from a despotic and abusive father to make a living in Torremolinos and Madrid, where she worked as a stage and musical theatre artist. She was a renowned impersonator of Sara Montiel and even came to closely associate with some of the great celebrities of the time.
During the late Franco era, she was imprisoned following the well-known raid of Pasaje Begoña, an episode that marked an entire generation. Later on, she even worked with the Manchegan director Pedro Almodóvar. However, a life marked by mistreatment and abuse prevented her from shining with her own light.
The turbulent life of Sandra Almodóvar is a novelized biography of this unique trans artist. The story is reconstructed from testimonies of close friends and people who knew her, and it composes a portrait full of light and shadow, but also of humor, emotion, and endurance. Sandra Almodóvar, dazzling for her talent and her humanity, emerges here as a contemporary icon in her own right.
