Madres paralelas
The book that accompanies Pedro Almodóvar's award-winning film starring Penélope Cruz.
Two women, Janis and Ana, meet in a hospital room where they are about to give birth. Both are single and have become pregnant by accident. Janis, middle-aged, embraces the moment fully and without regrets. Ana, on the other hand, is a frightened, remorseful, and traumatized teenager. In the hours before childbirth, Janis tries to encourage her as they walk, almost like sleepwalkers, down the hospital corridor. The few words they exchange are enough to create a close bond between them, and chance will take care of developing and complicating it until it transforms their lives.
This edition includes the original screenplay of the film and an extensive section of commentary on the creative process and filming, signed by Almodóvar himself. Additionally, it is richly illustrated in full color with photographs and storyboard excerpts, and closes with an epilogue by Vicente Molina Foix.
Madres paralelas is an ideal companion to the feature film and a reading of interest for those who enjoy cinema and culture.
If you wish, I can also include the quotes from Esquire and Fotogramas as final “mentions,” but for now I have left it cleaner for the product sheet.
