The Big Book of Pussy
The Big Book of Pussy closes The Big Book Series with a volume dedicated to the visual representation of the vulva in the history of photography and visual culture. Edited by Dian Hanson, the book offers a journey spanning from early 20th-century images to contemporary productions, gathering more than 400 photographs from various artistic, editorial, and cultural contexts.
The volume examines how this part of the body has been depicted, concealed, idealized, or stigmatized over time, focusing on the social and aesthetic changes that have influenced its perception. Far from a single viewpoint, the book collects diverse approaches ranging from classical photography to contemporary art, with special attention to the visual and expressive autonomy of the portrayed models.
The publication also includes interviews and testimonies from notable figures in the artistic, performative, and editorial fields, as well as the work of international photographers such as Terry Richardson, Richard Kern, Ralph Gibson, Jan Saudek, Guido Argentini, and Ed Fox, among others. The result is a broad visual compendium that places these images within a wider artistic and cultural tradition.
